Dry Needling Therapy
Dry needling therapy is often the missing link in your full body maintenance and recovery. Our trained practitioners provide safe, gentle and effective care that can vastly improve healing times and overall quality of life.
What is involved in a dry needling appointment?
The provider will first ask about your pain and/or symptoms and may conduct a movement assessment to help them further identify which areas of the body to treat. For example, if you were having low back tightness the provider may ask you to reach down and touch your toes and then back overhead to help give a better picture of where the muscle tightness is coming from.
After the course of treatment is identified, the provider will help set you up into a comfortable position. If the lower back is being worked you would most likely be face down. We have various pillows and bolsters to help you achieve the most comfortable set up possible, and as every body is different, we are more than happy to work with you to find the most comfortable set up. If you are having your upper torso or hips needled, we may ask you to change into a gown or shorts so that those areas can be accessed. You are also welcome to bring your own shorts or short sleeve shirts as well.
When you are comfortable and positioned correctly, the provider will identify anatomy and muscles to be needled. This is important as every body is different, and it also helps us to find particularly tight muscles that may need to be needled. Once the muscles have been identified the provider will insert sterile needles one at a time. The provider will check in with you regularly to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible, and to ensure that you would like to continue. We recognize that dry needling can be stressful and uncomfortable at times and we want you to feel as in control of the process as possible. Some needles are inserted only briefly and others will be left in the body. Once the needles are all placed the provider may attach them to electrical stimulation, if necessary or desired, or leave them as is. They may be left in anywhere from 5-15 minutes, depending on how many areas of the body are being worked on that day. After the time has been achieved the needles are removed and you will be able to move around again. Some people experience immediate pain relief and increased range of motion, others will feel soreness or tiredness and still others will feel relatively the same. These are all normal responses to dry needling and the full effects of the treatment will take a few days to set in. We end with any needed education and after care instructions.
What is dry needling?
Dry needling is the insertion of a “dry” needle into the body. This needle is considered dry because there is no medication or fluid inside, it is just a needle, similar to the needles used in acupuncture. Needles can be inserted into just the skin, the top layer of fascia or deeper into the muscle body, depending on desired results.
What are the benefits of dry needling?
Dry needling can provide benefits for injury recovery, injury prevention, body maintenance, relaxation, pain relief and improved systemic function. It is effective for both acute and chronic injury and pain and will effect the musculature as well the nervous system. It can provide muscle relaxation, increased blood flow and neural pathway reset. We can’t call it a silver bullet, but sometimes it sure feels like it. Check out the client feedback below for some ways that dry needling has helped improve quality of life.

“Recently I had the opportunity to work with Kevin and get dry needling done on an 8 month old injury that never fully healed. Two treatments of dry needling and I had full range of motion back. It was intimidating at first but really didn't hurt and quickly fixed the problem I was having. Kevin has an exceptional ability to find just the right spots and deliver the treatments needed for healing. I'm now a believer and will add Kevin to my must see when in the springs list.” T. W.
“I started going to the Center for Better Balance after injuring my back. As part of my treatment plan, I began dry needling sessions with Kevin and Erin. I’d tried dry needling in the past without much success, so I was skeptical at first. But after a month of consistent sessions, it became clear just how skilled and knowledgeable they are.
Kevin and Erin conduct a full assessment before each session, carefully tailoring the location, depth, and intensity of the treatment to meet your specific recovery needs. Thanks to their expertise, I was moving better than I had in over a year and finally able to exercise again without significant pain.
My experience taught me that dry needling is only as effective as the practitioner performing it—and Kevin and Erin are the real deal. Their precision and care promote healing in a way that’s hard to find anywhere else. They’re truly magicians when it comes to recovery!” L.F.
